Welcome to this Week’s Capsules. Last week, we began a new topic tagged Building Confidence to Pursue your Dreams and last week we demystified the concept of a dream. Today, we will be looking at the need for confidence as you get on that journey to your dreams. Also, we will be looking at the first step to building that confidence you need.
Lets begin this week’s capsules by taking a mental trip. Now fasten your seat belts as we begin our journey! Alright, suspend everything else you are doing and close your eyes . Now, imagine yourself in your mind’s eye, twenty years from now, a successful and wealthy icon in your chosen field. Always in the cover pages of major magazines in town, imagine your P.A having to cancel some proposed appointments since you are fully engaged probably for the next couple of months. Imagine several people waiting in the reception just to have five minutes of your time as you walk past to your office for the day’s work. Imagine yourself and your family making a holiday trip to Burjal Arab (the only seven star hotel in the world). Imagine yourself having a meeting with stake holders in your industry and even with presidents of countries. Now open your eyes and come back to reality. If you actually wet on that mind tour with me, you probably should have a smile on your face by now.
Now, hear me, that life and more is possible. That’s the person you were born to be, great! But truth be told, before you can get there, there is a journey of bravery, courage, determination, failure, hardship, joy, pain, tears, laughter, doggedness to be walked and to walk this path, one indispensable quality you need is CONFIDENCE!! Confidence is key for this journey because if you don’t believe in yourself and in what you carry, it is impossible to walk this path, let alone seeing yourself on the other side. If you lack the confidence to pursue your dreams, you don’t have to worry. Like I said last week, I’m here for you. I have mapped out ten steps to help you build the confidence you need to pursue your dreams. Today, we will be looking at the first step to building that confidence.
The first step to building confidence for your dreams is facing your fears, better known as the fear of the unknown. A lot of salary earners find themselves in this ugly web. They find it impossible to develop the confidence they need to face their fears. Most of the questions that read loud in such minds are; What if I fail at this thing I have chosen to do? What becomes of me? What if things don’t go as planned? What becomes of me? After this phase of my life, what next? What does life hold for me out there? What if I’m not as smart or as brave as I think when I eventually decide to walk that part? What if I loose all my money on this thing and at the end of the day, have nothing else to fall back on? Am I not safer staying put on this job and deciding to do nothing else? And so on.
So many times, for the fear of the unknown, people fail to makes moves, others seem to shy away from their dreams but the fact remains that you can never conquer your fears by running away from them. Some people prefer the cheap approach of soaking themselves in alcohol, others engage themselves in other distracting activities, some even hide themselves behind the masks of their jobs, all in a bid to be distracted but when you are done with all of those activities or when the effect of alcohol is worn out of your system, your fears will be resurface again.
Punchline, you never deal with your fears by running away from them! YOU FACE THEM! Did somebody say how? Good. That will form the basis of next week’s capsules. I will be sharing with you how to face and conquer your fears in a simple strategy called Judgment Day!
