Welcome to this week’s capsules. Today, we conclude on Believing, the third step in our current topic, Ten Steps To Building Confidence to Face Your Dream. Today, we begin with the concluding part of the story of the young man who wanted and believed he would work in a particular bank at all cost. For those who missed the first half of the story, you can read up last week’s capsules on my blog.
The young man got the CEO’s attention after consistently waving at her for three mornings, with a broad grin. She got him into her office and he confessed to her how much he longed to be a part of her team or no other and how much effort he had put in trying to make this happen. The CEO who had carefully listened to the young man’s passionate story and his encounters along the way, sighed. She turned to her PA and asked ‘’What are the available vacancies we currently have?’’ Now, hear me, how seriously people will take you in life will depend on how seriously you take yourself and your dream(s)! Same way, how much people will believe in you in life will depend on how much you believe in yourself…..
As fate would have it, only the position of a Supervisor was available. Please understand that this was a very high and sensitive position that required a minimum of ten to fifteen years experience in the bank. The CEO said ‘’Give it to him’’. Her PA who was perplexed asked again, for clarity in a subtle tone. ‘’/Ma, do you mean…. . ‘’I said give it to him’’ the CEO retorted. ‘’But ma, he is far from qualified for that position’’ The PA reminded her boss. ‘’Train him!’’ The CEO concluded. That was how a young man who doggedly believed in working with a particular bank, got the position of a supervisor for a start.
Anything is possible, only if you can believe in something, give it all it takes and hold on long enough even through hell and high waters. When the Wright brothers first shared their vision of wanting to create a metal that would travel in the air, of cause they must have been mocked and scorned, particularly since such a thing had never been done before. But they believed and held on to their dream and brought it to pass. Today, planes are everywhere. Bottom line, you must believe that your dream is possible and will happen someday, regardless of whatever challenges life brings your way or however terribly people mock you.
Punch line, he that does not believe in a thing, will fall for anything!
