Welcome to this week’s capsules. This week, we begin a new Topic on our weekly capsules tagged; Building Confidence to Pursue your Dream(s).
Over the years, I have found out that everyone wants to be successful yet very few people have enough confidence to pursue their dreams. Lots of people believe success is a game of luck that just happens to certain selected few. So rather than taking the bull by the horn and daring to live their dreams, they rather are contented with admiring the successful ones and wishing they could be like them. I have also seen lots of people who hate their jobs, particularly bankers yet are stuck to it for life for the lack of the confidence to pursue their dreams.
Well if this applies to you, then I’m glad to announce to you that I’m here to help you. First, I’m going to help you understand that you too can become truly successful and become the admired rather than the admirer. I will also be sharing with you how to face the fear of the unknown, conquer it and what to do to build the confidence you need to chase your greatness. I have carefully packaged this great information into what I call ten steps to building the confidence to pursue your dreams.
I like to start by first demystifying the term dream. A dream in simple terms is a big picture, a life goal, an aspiration to be successful, influential and rich at doing what you believe you were born to do. Please understand that many things can give you money and make you rich but money that comes from doing what you were created to do is what guaranty’s true success .
A lot of times, people mistake wealth for true success. That is a big misconception. Being rich or better still being wealthy is far from being truly successful. This is the reason why only very few rich people can boast of living their dreams. Living your dreams entails a lot more than being rich. It’s about becoming rich by doing the thing you were created to do and thus making an impact in your world and the world at large.
Segun Lawal, the chief Co-ordinator of Spirit of David dance group, on Head Room Africa, had this to say on this issue; ‘’I met a friend who was four or five sets my junior in school. He had chartered, mastered and was managing and he could afford to travel (out) for weekends. And he said to me, Segun I wish I had what you have. I thought he was jiving because I wish I had what he had. And he said to me, it’s not the money, its knowing that you know why you are on earth…’’.
Does that strike a chord? Now guess what? You too were born with something, that thing is called your talent or gift. I have also come across those who think talents are for a selected few. Please understand that everyman carries something. If you have not discovered it yet, it doesn’t mean it’s not there. Well, if you want to find out more about your gift, watch out for my podcast this week tagged HELP! I STILL DON’T KNOW MY TALENT.
