Welcome to this week’s capsules. Last week, we began looking at the second category of talented folks and I majored on the power of positive thinking. Today, we are going to be looking at the fear of failure.
Quite alot of people know their talents but are unable to take any bold step because of the fear of failing. What this category of people fail to understand is that failure is a blessing in disguise. I was listening to an interview some time ago between ken Blankard and John Maxwell. In that interview, Ken shared how that most times, when you set out to make it in life, you jump into the pool of life, very rarely do you dive in and find yourself in the right spot.
Most times you fall into a wrong angle and then you take another dive and so on until you find yourself in the right boat. For as many times as you take a dive into the wrong spot, it’s you failing and failing until you get it right. Very rarely in life do you take a first dive and get it right. You will have to fail several times before you get it right.
The challenge is that every body wants to succeed and no one wants to factor in failure into your success journey. Failures are nothing to be taken personal in your success journey, because each time you fail, you learn, failure is what makes up your learning curves and your story!
In other words, each failure teaches you vital lessons and brings you closer to your dream. So, in real terms, we can say you are failing- forward, because while you might be failing, you are gradually moving towards your success. Ever wondered why the name “7 Up”? It is because the owner of that soft drink tried six times and kept getting his formula wrong but got it right the seventh time.
You must never be afraid of failure , otherwise, what will be your story? Life is a two sided coin, the good, the bad, the sweet, the bitter, the painful, the pleasurable, the beautiful, the ugly, the soft, the strong and so on. If you truly desire to walk the path of greatness by finding and monetizing your talent, never train yourself to be a one sided fellow.
Train yourself to get used to both sides of the coin called life because on that journey to success you are going to experience both sides of life particularly the bitter and painful side of life. No pain they say, no gain.
Does nature itself not begin to teach us this? How come the ‘not so sweet’ foods are the healthier ones? How come the backs of fruits which we ignore for the sweet and juicy part? How come a gift as beautiful and precious as a baby comes with so much labour pangs?
Pain, bitter, sorrow, failure are all a part of life and a part of your success story. So for you who has found his talent but is afraid to dare to live it? Here is my advice for you. Go do your thing and if you fail, go again and fail again and again. At the end of those chains of failure us Mr Success waiting patiently for you with arms wide open!
Punch line; there world’s most successful men are the greatest risk takers
