Hello People, welcome to this week’s capsules. Last week, we concluded on the concept of Judgment Day, which I said is the first step to building confidence to pursue your dreams.
Today, we will be looking at the second step to building confidence to face your dreams which is your mental picture. Having a mental picture for where you are going in life is so vital for your success journey. Reminds me of a young marketer’s story which I read up in one of Brian Tracy’s books, The Psychology of Selling.
The young marketer was doing so well, closing so many deals for his company and surpassing the results of other older marketers that he had met on ground. His fame soon rose and he soon began to gain media recognition. In one of the interviews he granted the press, he shared his biggest success secret. He noted that before he went in for any meeting, he would spend some time in his car to prepare for the success of that meeting in his mind. Invariably, he used his mind’s eye to picture how the meeting would go. The possible questions he would be asked and the likely answers he would deliver in confidence and style. Thus, he blew the minds of his recipients and closed all his deals. He always took out time to do this and it always worked for him.
Having a mental picture of where you are going in life is so key to one’s personal success because what you don’t see, you can never become. A wise man once said; ‘’you are not permitted to be a part of a future you can’t see’’. One of the reasons you must occasionally stop to day dream of that big picture of yours is that, once you can create that mental picture, it becomes a driving force that propels all your other actions. That picture of what you have seen begins to make you take steps towards the goal. That mental picture also comes as a soothing relief that re-energizes you whenever there is a setback in your physical pursuit. I like the way one of my former colleague puts it. He says ‘’don’t stand in the way of a man who has seen the end of where he is going….. He will walk over you to get there, if he has to’’
Furthermore, your mental picture is not something you are supposed to see just once in a while, just because you were taught to do so. It is supposed to be something you see and fellowship with so regularly until it actually becomes a part of your subconscious mind. It is supposed to pop up regularly on its own when the situation demands, without you making any extra effort to make it so.
When your mental picture gets into your subconscious mind and has become a mental reality to you, then you can congratulate yourself in advance because it is one of the critical success factors that you need to get you to where you are going.
In the Christendom, this mental picture is called faith, little wonder God told Abraham that as much as he could see (in his mind’s eyes), He has given unto him in the physical. What’s most intriguing about this is step, is that even the atheists who do not believe but apply this same principle, get the same result because this principle is beyond religion, it is a principle of life! I have experienced too many down turns in my life but not once did I doubt my vision!
Punch line, A man who stands for nothing, will fall for anything.
